IES "Vegas Bajas" (Montijo) SPAIN
I.E.S. "Vegas Bajas" was created in 1967 as a High School dependent on High School "Santa Eulalia" of Merida, but became independent the following year. From 1970 our High School has been offering night studies too. With the addition of Technical Studies of Bakery in 1999-2000 the current structure of our High School was finally established.
At present, I.E.S. "Vegas Bajas" hosts 10 groups of E.S.O. with the following levels: 3 groups of 1º, 3 groups of 2º, 2 groups of 3º and 2 groups of 4 º ESO. About baccalaureate, our School has 2 groups of 1º and 3 groups of 2, in the categories of "Natural Science and Health" and "Humanities and Social Sciences".
It is also running a group of PCPI I and other of PCPI volunteer module, and other of Intermediate Training Course, in the scope of "Bakery and Food Industries". Evening classes are taught in classes to groups 3º and 4º of ESPA and baccalaureate. We have a total amount of 550 students, which come from the same town and the villages of Lácara and Barbaño.
The teaching staff has 53 teachers and non-teaching staff has two secretaries, three custodians, maintainers, five cleaners, a computer administrator and a social educator.
Our town is located in a rural area with many farms, although in the district of Montijo there are companies of canned goods (fruits and vegetables) and olive oil. The town is a commercial center and has businesses in the construction sector too. The town grew in the last 60’s due to the creation of Plan Badajoz (Plan for irrigation and Colonization). The unemployment rate in Montijo in December 2009 was around 20%, most of the population are working class and their education skills are low. The number of fails among our students isn’t especially high, despite the risk of social exclusion in this disadvantaged area. We have some ACNEE (special education) , ethnic minority (gypsies especially) and migrants pupils. They are served by the Counseling department.

Liceo Ginnasio Statale "Quinto Orazio Flacco" (Bari) ITALY
The Liceo Ginnasio Statale "Q. Orazio Flacco" is located in southern Italy, in Bari, just by the Adriatic Sea, not far from the port. It counts more than one thousand pupils, coming mostly from the centre, but also from other quarters of the city (some in partially disadvantaged areas too) and from surrounding towns. Our Liceo is an ancient school with a long tradition in classical studies, but it's also open to innovation, creativity and drama activities. It has two ICT Labs , a modern linguistic Lab and an extensive school library. Our school is very interested in relationships with other countries. This interest in cultural exchanges is due also to the special geographical position of Bari, a town on the Mediterranean sea, that can be considered a bridge between East and West. Our school has therefore been involved in successful eTwinning projects we would like to enrich with real meetings. A Comenius project could be a great opportunity for our pupils to go abroad and meet their European fellows. It could offer them an unforgettable experience of the European dimension through the awareness of differences and analogies among different countries and the discovery of their common heritage.
Liceo Statale "G. Lombardo Radice" (Catania) ITALY
Our Liceo has got 160 teachers ,1383 students (25 migrants - 30 disabled). It has got different courses ranging from Human Sciences (Social Economic) to the Linguistic one. It has been a reference point for students for specific needs and we have designed several projects against dropping out. Our Location, in the hub of the Mediterraneum, makes our school a privileged centre for the meeting of different cultures bordering on the Mare Nostrum (Ethiopia, Morocco, Tunisia etc.) In our Liceo, and specifically in the Liceo Linguistico, Latin, French, English and Spanish open up new horizons to our students in a multicultural world and project them into the European microcosm. Stages and exchanges have enriched the social and will certainly make more significant the social and cultural activities of our school. Drama has developped in students with specific needs integration and self awareness. Furthermore our Liceo devotes great space to Art and Literature to enhance literary, visual, multimedia and artistic languages.
Partecipating in a Comenius project would be a great chance for our students. Going abroad and meeting with their European fellow students for our pupils and especially migrants or those in economic needs would make them live an unreapetable experience through a European dimension, rediscovering our multi-Latin-multi-Culture roots.
Our role in the Comenius is to let our students be active participants in the project making the Greek-Roman-Catanensis part of the movie and exchange their experience with european fellow students; Check the English Language Reports and Products of the different schools, Advertise different activities and mobilities.

We all believe that Latin, which is not available in Turkish curriculum, is an important historical language with a rich literature and history that influenced many European languages, including English. Our students will raise awareness of that precious language. Latin writings have had a significant influence on world literatures. Our students who want to study English Literature at university will gain a deep understanding of the meanings of the literary texts after studying Roman civilisation. Students will come in contact with a variety of world cultures while comparing those cultures to their own. Our project topic will provide our students with an opportunity to appreciate Roman art forms surrounding us all over Turkey . They will also gain a deeper understanding of the Europe in which they live in. They will discover unity from diversity. We firmly believe that we will establish friendships that is the essence of peaceful mutual support.
